The Ravens Are Worrying Me

Though it has only been one game, the Baltimore Ravens are already in danger of missing the playoffs. They play the Chiefs tomorrow, who I think will steamroll them, leading to them starting 0–2 for the season.

Before the season started, I viewed the Ravens as an easy playoff contender and very likely to make the playoffs. However, what I saw this Monday, really shocked me. Looking at the final score, it seems that Ravens were not too bad, but watching the game live made me question this team. Coming into this season, I was high on the Ravens defense as they had added many new names, however, other than Marlon Humphrey, Patrick Queen, and a little bit of Calais Campbell, their defense was for the most part subpar. What makes it even worse for Baltimore was that many of Las Vegas’ receivers were feasting. Hunter Renfrow was extremely solid along with Henry Ruggs & Bryan Edwards making clutch plays at the end. Don’t think I forgot about Darren Waller, who absolutely tore up Baltimore’s defense by getting 10 receptions, 105 yards, and a touchdown. The Raiders offense played extremely well against one of the league’s “best defenses” which is concerning for Baltimore.

Now moving onto Baltimore’s offense, what was former MVP Lamar Jackson doing this game? Don’t get me wrong, Lamar was average during this game, but those two fumbles really outshine his positives. I do think his offensive line does also deserve a lot of blame for the amount of pressure that Lamar received during this game, especially without their starting running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Speaking of their running backs, Ty’Son Williams played exceptionally and I expect Coach Harbaugh to increase his role in the coming weeks. The Ravens’ receiving was alright with Hollywood Brown and Sammy Watkins have some solid yardage. A person who was not alright in this game was Mark Andrews. The Ravens are going to need him to be solid to have a chance to compete with other defenses.

Though it may seem that I am overreacting, I truly think that the Ravens are going to need to address serious holes in their roster. At this point in time, I cannot see them competing with other playoff teams in the deeply stacked AFC. Ravens’ fans must pray that Monday’s game was just unlucky or otherwise the Ravens are in big trouble.
