With All Due Respect

With all due respect — do not tell me that those who came before me are of no concern — no consequence to me,

that only leads me down the fallen roads — causeways that hold hostage the proof of who I am

With all the respect I garner for you — please, do not tell me that the markings upon my person are not the fingerprints transferred unto me,

by those that pressed their memories upon me, that only infers I am a beginning — a fibbers dye cast out of the blue

With all the respect you may deserve, please do not tell me I am part of some petri dish discovery — a cultured growth of happenstance —

a freak of some unnatural disaster, that only infers I am one among the many — my purpose mine alone,

With all the respect, for you, I hold dear — its dwindling, please, do not tell me, I am not the memory of some universal order, banking on the proceeds — collecting interest, I’ve made a deposit, keeping some change that lines the coffers of my holy pockets — I have invested in your tomorrow

Please, respect is defaming my internship, you’ve said so much, you’ve orphaned my ears to the realm’s of impossibility — to the tears that hemorrhage through my eyes, my sight distorted by your waxed lyrical verbosity

“I am a child of the rib-ticklers jest — did you not know”

Roasted on a spark that roars into an everlasting flame — as I tickle your fancy — my fingerprint the demarcation, the proof that respect unearned is a vocation in disorder

The jokes on you — with all due respect, my laughter, the tinkle that sparks The Big Bang, I apologize if I’ve burst your bubble but any respect we carry was not built on the backs of those that lapsed into the poverty of spirit — but of those before us — that deemed our worthiness — before we ever deciduously proved our own.
