How specific can you get?

We look at athletes training in the gym’s and people going ga-ga over sport specific training.Yes,agreed,the 1 percenters matter but how specific can you get in the weight room?Can you stimulate exact game scenarios in the weight room?Can we become on field champions by being weight room champions?
Here’s my 2 cents about the entire conundrum.

Athletes and coaches need to understand that-Firstly,”YOU GET BETTER AT A SKILL IF YOU CONTINOUSLY EXECUTE THAT PARTICULAR SKILL”,no shit,you’d say.It’s pretty straightforward,you get better at running by running more,you get better at bowling by bowling more,you get better at…well you get the idea.

Where does the concept of transfer occur then?

Properly programmed training programs in conjunction with appropriate periodization,based on the season that the athlete is in,will enable the athlete only to bridge the “gaps” in the “holes”,but not for one moment can you even begin to think that you can forgo this part of preparation as it is as important,if not more than the skillset that is required.

Elite athletes are almost similar with minor differences in terms of skill levels,what differentiates the men from the boys is the willingness of the athletes to work with efficient and knowledgeable support staff both on the field and off it to be able to be a cut above the rest.
