What does the Democratic Party Believe?

We have all been disappointed by the Democratic Party. We hope that they will address the needs of ordinary folks, main street, not wall street. Republicans have “cut taxes for the rich, cut social spending, increase defense spending, don’t add to the national debt.” Ban abortion. They have repeated that mantra and doing exactly that for 40 years.

That got me wondering: What do Democrats believe?

First, let’s look at the Republican Party.

Ronald Reagan became our President in 1981. His beliefs were simple: cut taxes for the rich, cut social spending, and increase spending on defense. To this day Republicans repeat that simple platform.

Also, defeat communism.

The Republicans built think tanks to rationalize those principles. Thought ahead and planned.

Since then:

Their economic policy has transferred trillions of dollars to the rich from the rest of us.

Their health care system is responsible for most bankruptcies.

Their safety net is more like a fishing net, full of holes.

Their Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade.

They have been very, very successful.

How about the Democratic party?

They have a big tent. Everyone is welcome. They are the party of the people.

FDR gave us the New Deal; Johnson, the Great Society; Obama, the Affordable Care Act.

Also, “Welfare Reform,” “mass incarceration,” and “globalization.” Was all that from Clinton?

The Preface to their 2020 Platform includes: universal healthcare, affordable prescription drugs, voting rights for all, an end to the war on government, root out racism, reform the criminal justice system, guarantee equal rights for all, address the climate crisis, create a world class educational system and affordable college, create more and better jobs, greater security, a clean environment, build an inclusive and resilient society, fight authoritarianism, improve aid to veterans, and restore the soul of America.

Confusing? Overwhelming? Doable?

We look at the Scandinavian countries. They already have universal health care, good schools, housing for all, child care, and other amenities we long for. Some people moved there and like it. People don’t kill one another. They are kind to one another.

Everything we want.

But they have “socialism.”

We have been taught that being socialist or progressive is bad. It was communism. We’d be like Russia. We’d lose our freedom.

It is not permissible to call yourself a “progressive.” Nancy Pelosi will personally support your opponent.

“Everybody knows” that Medicare for All is the first step toward socialism. We’d lose our freedom. I have patients tell me that. My wife just got on Medicare. I had been paying $1,300 a month for her insurance. Now it’s about half that. I’m on Medicare, plus a supplement and drug coverage. I got prostate cancer. Treatment cost over $100,000. I paid nothing. I love Medicare.

Sweden is a better country for entrepreneurs. They have less paperwork. (Opportimes June 2022) They aren’t worried about the wealth gap.

Summing up

Republicans: cut taxes and everyone benefits, cut spending for deadbeat dads and welfare queens, have the best military to keep the world free from communism, and a plan. Bad mouth democrats every chance you get.

Democrats: anything you want, except Medicare for all and costly social programs. Play nice with Republicans. “Rescue Wall Street.” Don’t brag. “Speak softly and carry a big….”

How do you summarize what Democrats believe in an advertising slogan, without pissing off Nancy Pelosi?
