COMM 110 INTRO

Hello! My name is Matt DeMember I am from Frederick, Maryland and I am a sophomore at Grove City College. I am studying Communications, and Biblical and Religious Studies. I love the skills I have been learning in communications ranging from public speaking to photography. I want to be a youth pastor one day and these skills will help me be very well in contact with kids in our society and help communicate better to them how much fun it can be as a follower of Christ.

The media plays a bigger part in churches than you would think with Facebook pages and Instagram stories trying to grasp the attention of new members. Social media is the first thing that I think of when I hear “media”. It helps people have a place to go to to share their life, compare themselves to others, and get some news on the status of our world.

Many times the newest trends will appear on social media and my generation’s culture is shaped around the use of social media. On of the newest stupid trends you can find on the internet and in media is eating Tide Pods. Social media in specific I have seen cause a lot of damage in society and how we treat each other. It is so much easier to talk bad about someone when you are behind a screen. Social media and media can be very useful though. We share music, photos of our lives and our opinions for millions to see online many times expecting affirmation for how cool we are. Our culture relies on social media to shape us and as an outlet to sharing opinions.

This blog should be a great challenge for me. I am one of the most most ADD people around so my ideas may be all over the place however, I am looking forward to blogging because I am kind of a crappy writer and it will be cool to get out of my comfort zone!
