7 Fundamentals of Writing

Math and writing have come a long way since I was in middle school back in the early 80s, but one thing hasn't changed: the importance of practicing the fundamentals.

Young Herts Run Free..

The summer holidays are around the corner, and with the kids off school that can mean an expensive 6 weeks of activities to keep them entertained. Luckily there are so many fantastic free things to do in Hertfordshire and our surrounding towns, which really will help us save a few £££!

Your local library is a fantastic place to visit for free activities and events. Baby Rhyme Time, Toddler Tales and Storytime run at libraries across Herts and are free! And if the weather is having a bit of an off day, it’s a great place to take the kids to browse through all the different books. It really makes a refreshing change reading some different story books than the same ones you have been reading at home over and over!

It’s no secret that we are spoilt for choice with so many beautiful parks to choose from, many of them with free parking! These are our faves..

There is so much to enjoy at Cassiobury Park: playgrounds, cafes, a miniature railway, a recently renovated splash park and paddling & fishing by the rustic bridge. Over the summer holidays they also have bungee trampolines and bouncy castles, you could easily spend all day here. And with free parking in the car park there’s no reason not too!

This beautiful nature reserve covers 41 hectares, including a large playground, wooded walks and open spaces and two lakes which were formed by excavating gravel to build the original Wembley Stadium! The park has a large free car park, and despite the size and popularity of this park we’ve never struggled to get a parking space!

On the outskirts of Welwyn Garden City, Stanborough Park covers an area of 126 acres, and has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for the past 10 years. Here you’ll find a playground, boating lake with pedal boats and row boats and walks led by trained volunteers. The kids can also paddle in the shallow waters, don’t forget your fishing nets to see if they can catch a few little fish! The open spaces are perfect for having a picnic, but you also have the choice of a restaurant, coffee shop & kiosk, so you won’t go hungry!

As well as a huge choice of outdoor spaces, we are also spoilt with some fantastic splash parks in Herts. Cassiobury Park, Verulamium Park and King George Recreation ground are some of our favourites. Check out our blog on our top 4 favourite splash parks in Herts for all the details!
