Installing Ubiquiti Unifi Controller on a Raspberry Pi 3

Add info about grabbing correct image etc.

Add a ssh file (no extension) to the boot partition (this enable ssh access).

To keep this simple, I used a wired connection rather than the Raspberry Pi’s built in wifi.

Once the Raspberry Pi is powered up and connected to the network, lookup its IP address in your routers list of clients. By default it should be called raspberrypi.

Make sure raspbian is updated.

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Add the Unifi repository source and pull updates.

Install UniFi. This can take a few minutes to complete, but should be self contained.

Reboot the Pi to complete the installation.

Wait for the Raspberry Pi to reboot.

UniFi should be set to automatically start when the OS boots, so if there’s a power outage, the controller should automatically start running again as soon as the power come back on.

Connect to the UniFi Controller.

This starts the controller setup process, which will guide you through discovering any access points and setting up an SSID and optional guest network.

There’s also a handy app that allows you to access local or cloud controllers.
